The Cyrus Klepcys DICE Only Watch will be on sale at Only Watch 2021, a unique piece featuring a double independent monopusher chronograph.
Few weeks ago we highlighted some of the unique pieces that will be on sale at the 9th edition of the Only Watch biennal charity auction to support scientific and medical research on neuromuscular diseases in general and Duchenne muscular dystrophy in particular.
In the coming weeks we will present more in detail some of these timepieces, especially those that introduce interesting technical solutions, like the Cyrus Klepcys DICE for Only Watch, a model that features a double independent monopusher chronograph.
DICE is the acronym of Double Independent Chronograph Evolution and, in fact, this is not a traditional chronograph but instead a double chronograph capable of measuring two short intervals of time independently or in synchrony.
The Klepcys design, with its two monopusher crowns, makes this operation as simple as possible.
The twin crowns, a peculiarity of the Klepcys line, are equipped with a pusher that sets the three chronograph functions (start/stop/reset). Both are fully functional, embellished with the brand's helix logo, and distinguished by either an orange or yellow - the colours of the Only Watch event - anodised aluminium ring to select which chronograph is going to be activated.
The open-worked dial showcases glimpses of the mechanics including wheels, levers and the two column wheels, in orange and yellow lacquer, placed at 12 and 6 o'clock.
At 3 o'clock, the 30-minute chronograph counter is equipped with two vertically aligned hands in orange and yellow.
The same orange and yellow colour scheme is used for the two central seconds hands, each measuring a different length.
At 9 o'clock, the running seconds are indicated by means of a rhodium-plated microbeaded helix decorated with circular satin finish and featuring a luminescent tip.
The large sapphire crystal features the Arabic numerals in relief with white Super-LumiNova that emits a blue glow.
Housed in a 42 mm cushion-shaped case in Grade 5 titanium with polished and satin-brushed finishes, the 443-component CYR718 self-winding manufacture calibre features a special system of insulation ensuring precision measurement for the duration of the event. This way, the shocks generated by the activation of chronograph levers have no repercussions on the display of the functions. The two chronographs function independently without exerting any influence on one another.
To free up as much space as possible for the dual chronograph complication, Jean Francois Mojon (our exclusive interview here) conceived a specifically compact concentric mechanism of the motion work which is coaxial to the axes of the hands.
Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of 60 hours delivered by a single barrel, the CYR718 calibre and the open-worked monobloc rotor are visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. The rotor is engraved with the motto "The Conquest of Innovation" and adorned with an 18k 4N gold helix.
Water-resistant to 10 bar (approximately 100 metres /330 feet), the Cyrus Klepcys DICE Only Watch is matched to an orange Cordura fabric strap with a titanium folding clasp and delivered with an additional black rubber strap.
