IWC Schaffhausen has presented a new version of its coveted Big Pilot’s Watch to be worn on the right wrist. The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Edition “Right-hander” (ref. IW501012) is a limited edition of 250 watches with a price of Euro 14,900 (including VAT) / US$ 14,200 (excluding taxes).
IWC Schaffhausen has presented a new version of its coveted Big Pilot’s Watch designed to be worn on the right wrist.
Like the standard version, the Big Pilot’s Watch Edition “Right-hander” features an imposing stainless steel case with a diameter of 46.2 mm which frames an easy to read slate-coloured dial imitating the cockpit instruments. The luminescent indices and hands guarantee optimum legibility, even at night or in poor visibility conditions.
The retro design of the model is directly inspired by the Big Pilot’s Watch Calibre 52 TSC from the 1940s.
The iconic, conical-shaped crown, is located on the left-hand side of the case making the watch more practical to operate for those who wear their watch on the right wrist. Considering that - according to IWC - almost 40 percent of pilots are thought to be left handed, and therefore wear their watches on the right, this model appears to be a proper addition for the product line.
Protected against the effects of magnetic fields by a soft-iron inner case, the IWC-manufactured calibre 52010 is equipped with a Pellaton winding system with ceramic components. Beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vph), this movement guarantees 7 days of autonomy thanks to the twin barrels. A power reserve display at 3 o’clock indicates the charging level at all times.
The watch also features a specially designed sapphire glass designed to be protected against sudden drops in pressure in the cockpit. Water resistance is 6 bar (60 metres / 200 feet).
