Hands-on Review: Nomos Glashütte Club Sport

Review of the Nomos Club Sport. We recently had the opportunity to test the Club Sport model for an entire week and we can now share our hands-on experience with this versatile timepiece, perfect with a week-end casual fit but at ease also with a suit in a business environment. the new Club Sport (ref. 781) by Nomos Glashütte has a price of Euro 3,220 / US$ 4,060 that is certainly very attractive when you consider the high quality of the timepiece and, particularly, its performances, finishes and in-house manufactured movement.
Nomos Glashütte Club Sport

In the last couple of years, Nomos Glashütte presented several new models characterized by reinforced sportiness. At the beginning of 2019, the main Baselworld 2019 novelty from the German watchmaker was represented by three new sport models in stainless steel featuring metal bracelets and a larger size.

We recently had the opportunity to test one of them, the Club Sport model, for an entire week and we can now share our hands-on experience with this versatile timepiece, perfect with a week-end casual fit but at ease also with a suit in a business environment.

The round 42 mm case is made of polished stainless steel. Its total thickness is 10.2 mm making the watch well proportioned. Thanks to reinforced seals and screw-down crown, the Club Sport is water resistant to 300 metres / 1000 feet, a remarkable performance.

Security is important for a sport watch and Nomos paid attention to every detail. An interesting one can be noticed when you unscrew the crown: in fact, a clearly visible red section of the tube serves as a reminder for the wearer to screw down the crown to prevent water and dust from entering.

The polished case is matched to a satin brushed bracelet that, despite being crafted from solid stainless steel (and not from folded metal plates), is slender and very light, almost a steel "strap".

Consisting of 145 individual parts screwed together by hand, this bracelet is secured to the wrist by a specially developed deployant clasp.

Thanks to a quick release system, it is possible to replace the bracelet with a wide range of straps in few seconds and without needing any tool. This is a great plus for a wristwatch and we really hope to see more models offering the same possibility.

Protected by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating inside and out, the deep black dial offers exceptional readability thanks to large hands and hour markers (alternating Arabic numerals and indexes) that are generously coated with a thick layer of blue Super-LumiNova for enhanced visibility even in poor light conditions.

The snailed small seconds counter, the "neomatik" and "1000ft" inscriptions in yellow and the large date aperture at 3 o'clock further enrich the refined dial.

The Club Sport is powered by the in-house manufactured DUW 6101 calibre. Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offering up to 42 hours of power reserve, this movement is equipped with the Nomos proprietary swing system which gives this model the additional title of ‘neomatik’. The quick-set mechanism makes it easy to adjust the date in both directions with the crown.

Visible from the back side through the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, the DUW 6101 caliber is beautifully finished and displays rhodium-plated surfaces with Glashütte ribbing, perlage and tempered blued screws. The bidirectional winding rotor is enhanced by gold-plated embossing.

Delivered with a leather wallet that is very useful when travelling, a cleaning cloth and the 2-year warranty booklet, the new Club Sport (ref. 781) by Nomos Glashütte has a price of Euro 3,220 / US$ 4,060 that is certainly very attractive when you consider the high quality of the timepiece and, particularly, its performances, finishes and in-house manufactured movement. nomos-glashuette.com
