The price of the standard version of the Portugiueser Automatic in stainless steel is about Euro 12,000. We expect that the price of this limited edition to be slightly higher.
For the third year in a row, IWC is an official sponsor of the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF). To make the partnership memorable, the Schaffhausen watch manufacturer created a 50-piece limited edition of its Portugieser (or Portuguese) model.
The new Portugieser Automatic Edition “Beijing International Film Festival 2015” comes in stainless steel and is characterised by a silver plated dial with black counters, which is why some IWC fans are already referring to this model as the Panda dial edition.
At 9 o'clock we find the small seconds sub-dial, visually balanced by the power reserve indication at 3 o'clock. The small date aperture is positioned at 6 o'clock.
The movement is the new 52010 calibre recently introduced at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie 2015 last January. Thanks to new ceramic components, the bidirectional Pellaton self-winding mechanism is practically wear-free.
The indexless balance has an increased frequency of 4Hz (28,800 beats per hour) which, combined with the Breguet spring, guarantees great precision. Two barrels offer a power reserve 7 days or 168 hours.
Housed in the 42.3 mm case, the automatic movement is visible throughout the sapphire glass case back allowing the owner to view the details of the movement: the bridges decorated with Geneva stripes and circular graining, the polished screws, and the skeletonized rotor enriched by the 18-carat gold medallion bearing the logo of the Beijing International Film Festival as well as the engraving “BJIFF 2015 · ONE OUT OF 50”.
