The Classic Fusion is one of Hublot’s most recognisable creations, embodying the brand’s bold and unconventional approach to watchmaking. Its story began in 1980, when Carlo Crocco launched a watch named “Hublot,” the French word for “porthole,” inspired by the shape of its bezel. At the time, the company was still known as MDM Geneve.

Challenging convention, the watch combined precious gold with a natural rubber strap, something never seen before in the industry. The concept was a major success and laid the foundation for what would later become Hublot’s signature philosophy, known as the Art of Fusion: a seamless blend of traditional and modern materials. 

Over the years, the Classic Fusion has remained true to this spirit, evolving in a wide variety of finishes including titanium, ceramic, and King Gold, while preserving its refined, contemporary silhouette.

It is fitting that Hublot and Pisa 1940 chose the Classic Fusion for a special edition celebrating their long-standing partnership. Pisa 1940, Italy’s largest watch retailer, is well known among international collectors for its exclusive collaborations with many of the world’s most prestigious watchmakers.

We recently had the opportunity to photograph the King Gold version of the Hublot Classic Fusion Pisa 1940 Special Edition at the brand’s flagship boutique in Milan. Like other Hublot timepieces, this limited edition can be ordered directly through Pisa 1940’s online platform.

Also available in black ceramic and titanium (featured in our introductory article), this first Boutique Pisa 1940 edition reinterprets the Classic Fusion with a design that pays tribute to one of Milan’s most iconic landmarks, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

Its architectural elegance is reflected in the dial’s motif, set against a rich blue sunray-brushed background. 

The pattern evokes the symmetry and grandeur of the historic glass dome, blending Milanese heritage with Hublot’s unmistakable aesthetic.

The absence of a date window preserves the purity of the dial, reinforcing the architectural theme and allowing the design to take centre stage.

The 42 mm case of the Classic Fusion Original has a thickness of just 10.4 mm, with an elegant play of satin-finished and polished surfaces. The vertically brushed bezel, secured by six H-shaped titanium screws, features polished chamfers for visual contrast. 

A black rubber gasket between the case and bezel reinforces the model’s casual yet refined character.

The crown is engraved with Hublot’s signature H, while the sapphire crystal caseback reveals the self-winding HUB1110 calibre. This movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of 48 hours.

The blue rubber strap is attached to the case with four screws and fastens with a folding clasp that matches the case material, equipped with double safety push buttons. 

Soft and flexible, the strap works in harmony with the curved lugs to provide excellent comfort on the wrist.

Limited to just 25 pieces, including ten in ceramic, ten in titanium, and five in King Gold, the Hublot Classic Fusion Boutique Pisa 1940 Special Edition is available exclusively through Pisa 1940, either at the flagship store in Milan or online at this link.
