Armin Strom Orbit: two new editions in Lime Green and Ice Blue

Armin Strom has unveiled two new editions of its Orbit model, one standing out in a vibrant Lime Green and the other presented in a more refined Ice Blue.

These colours are used for the hours and minutes sub-dial, the tip of the date pointer, and the word “DATE” on the fixed black ceramic bezel.

The anti-reflective sapphire crystal highlights the details of the off-center dial on the left, while the right side reveals three hand-finished finger bridges. 

The gradient dials transition from a central hue to a deep black at the edges, creating a contrast with the rhodium-coated, Super-LumiNova-enhanced hour and minute hands. 

At the core of the new Orbit models is the Manufacture Calibre ASS20, launched in 2022 as the world’s first movement to feature a date indication that appears on a ceramic bezel only when activated. 

By pressing the pusher at 10 o’clock, the date hand engages and points to the current date on the bezel.

While the function is active, the hand advances automatically each day at midnight. A second press of the pusher returns the hand to its neutral position at 12 o’clock. 

This is made possible by a column-wheel mechanism that ensures smooth and precise operation. It is a playful yet highly functional complication.

The movement builds on the Gravity Equal Force calibre introduced in 2019, which was the first automatic movement to deliver constant force transmission. The Orbit's calibre ensures consistent power delivery to the balance and offers a 72-hour power reserve.

A stop-work mechanism built into the barrel prevents the mainspring from fully unwinding, using only the portion of the mainspring that provides the most stable energy output.

Visible through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback, the Calibre ASS20 beats at a frequency of 3.5 Hz (25,200 vibrations per hour) and showcases meticulous hand-finishing. Its refined decoration includes polished chamfers, perlage on the main plate, and heat-blued screws set in polished chatons.

Housed in a stainless steel case measuring 43.4 millimetres in diameter and 12.6 millimetres in height, the watch is water resistant to 5 ATM, equivalent to 50 metres or 165 feet. It comes paired with a matching integrated stainless steel bracelet.
