Urban Jürgensen - 1140L Lever Escapement

Owned by a group of Danish private investors and based in Bienne (Switzerland), Urban Jürgensen recently won the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) 2014 in the Men's Watches category with its Seconde Centrale model.

A beautiful addition to the 2015 collection and recently showcased at Baselworld, the new 1140 Lever Escapament comes in yellow gold with black dial, red gold with silver dial, white gold with blue dial as well as in platinum with silver dial.

All these models feature classically executed hand guilloché silver dials. They are real works of art. Each dial requires up to 700 operations and takes 2 full days of hand work to complete on a guilloché lathe. After engine-turning, the dial is repeatedly brought to red heat and treated with acid to produce the unique warm colour by developing a fine layer of pure silver on the surface.

The gold models have solid gold index batons while the the platinum version comes with Arabic numerals. The platinum version also differs for the opal shade used for the central area. The diamond-finished hands requires several hours of handwork to to perfectly polish them.

The new 40 mm classical case design used in these references, has a round form with distinctive teardrop shaped lugs and stepped bezel.

Reference 1140L models are equipped with the in-house hand-wound Urban Jürgensen P4 Lever Escapement movement which beats at 3 Hz (21,600 vph) and features two barrels for a 72-hour power reserve.

The Urban Jürgensen 1140L timepieces have a price of Swiss Francs 27,900 in gold or Swiss Francs 34,500 in platinum.
