Nine years after its launch, the Richard Lange Jumping Seconds by A. Lange & Söhne remains a benchmark in rate accuracy and legibility, thanks to its unique fusion of constant-force escapement, jumping seconds, and ZERO-RESET mechanism, all combined in a timepiece distinguished by its regulator dial layout.

The Saxon brand has unveiled a new 100-piece limited edition of this model, reference 252.056, characterised by the warm tones of the dial in 750 pink gold, framed by a contrasting white-gold case.

The arrangement of the three time units—seconds, minutes, and hours—emphasises the smallest of these measurements.

The slim seconds hand advances in 60 steps per minute along the upper and largest circle of the regulator dial. 

Its cadence is defined by an ingenious one-second constant-force escapement that serves two purposes: it delivers the switching impulse for the seconds jump and ensures constant power delivery throughout the entire 42-hour power reserve.

The two smaller circles, positioned below on the left and right, indicate the hours and minutes.

A small indicator at the intersection of the three time circles alerts the wearer when to rewind the watch: it switches to red ten hours in advance.

This design takes inspiration from historical chronometer No. 93, crafted by Dresden watchmaker Johann Heinrich Seyffert in the late 18th century, whose work laid the foundations of precision timekeeping in Germany and influenced Ferdinand Adolph Lange.

Complementing the constant-force escapement and the jumping seconds mechanism, the ZERO-RESET mechanism uses a multi-disc clutch: when the crown is pulled, the seconds hand instantly jumps to zero, enabling precise time setting to the second.

The three mechanisms can be admired through the sapphire-crystal caseback. An aperture in the three-quarter plate reveals how the remontoir spring of the constant-force escapement receives fresh energy from the mainspring barrel once per second and delivers it to the going train.

Mounted on the escape-wheel arbor beneath a transparent bearing jewel, a rotating star controls the jumping seconds mechanism. 

The complex lever system of the ZERO-RESET mechanism and its arresting spring, which blocks the balance for precise time setting, is also clearly visible.

Operating at a frequency of 2.5 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour), the hand-wound 390-part calibre L094.1 is assembled twice and incorporates many traditional elements.

The finishing of this exceptional movement meets the highest standards, with bridges made of untreated German silver decorated with Glashütte ribbing, a hand-engraved balance cock, and eight screwed gold chatons.

The 39.9 mm x 10.6 mm case is completed by a dark-brown leather strap with a 750 white-gold prong buckle.
