Moritz Grossmann - ATUM Power Reserve

The ATUM collection from German manufacturer Moritz Grossmann includes watches in precious metals (we wrote about them here) as well as the ATUM Pure models in stainless steel.

Two additional variations with a power reserve complication are also available in rose gold or white gold.

In the ATUM Power Reserve - or Gangreserve in German - the reduced overall appearance of the watch is enhanced by the power reserve indicator, a two-colour bar-shaped display positioned just below the logo of the brand.

This is controlled via a slender crown wheel differential gearing. Inspired by Glashütte observation watches, it connects the spring barrel and the ratchet wheel with the power-reserve display.

Via a carrier arbor with a planetary wheel, it transfers the opposing rotary winding and unwinding motions to the power-reserve indicator. When the mainspring is fully wound, the bar is white. The red portion gradually appears as the spring winds down.

The 41 mm x 11.65 mm case frames a silver dial with hour markers in gold, manually sculpted hands in steel and a detailed minute scale.

Two different manufacture hand designs are matched to the colour of the case. The rose-gold version features three hands that are annealed to a brown hue. For the version in white gold, they are made of polished stainless steel.

The sapphire-crystal glass protecting the dial has an antireflective coating on one side to prevent view-disturbing reflections of incident light.

The manually wound calibre 100.2 movement embodies some of the manufacture's most prominent proprietary developments such as the Grossmann balance beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, the modified Glashütte stopwork, and the Grossmann manual winder with pusher.

A distinctive feature of Moritz Grossmann movements, the Grossmann winder with pusher features a refined hand setting mechanism that eliminates two possible error sources: the ingress of particles into the case while the hands are being set and the unintentional alteration of the hand positions while the crown is being pushed home again.

Visible through the sapphire crystal case back are the German silver 2/3 plate with broad horizontal Glashütte ribbing, the hand-engraved balance cock and escape-wheel, the 3-band snailing on the ratchet wheel and the raised gold chatons with pan-head screws.

The Moritz Grossmann ATUM Power Reserve has a price of Euro 28,800 in rose gold (ref. MG02.C-01-A000470) and Euro 29,800 in white gold (ref. MG02.C-02-000471). grossmann-uhren.com
