Pre-SIHH 2017: Audemars Piguet - Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Black Ceramic

Following the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar model in stainless steel introduced at the end of 2015 and the yellow gold version in 2016, Audemars Piguet enriches the line with a full black version made of hand-finished black ceramic on occasion of the 2017 edition of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie.

Day, date, month, astronomical moon, week of the year displayed on the dial’s outer chapter ring as well as the leap year indication are beautifully arranged on the typical "Grande Tapisserie" decorated dial.

The photo realistic astronomical moon of the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Black Ceramic nicely contrasts with the slate grey background and black counters.

Virtually unscratchable, black ceramic withstands high temperatures and thermal shocks, and is consequently extremely resistant also to ageing.

The ultra-hardness of this material is a great advantage for the user but represents a big challenge for the manufacturer as numerous operations demanding extreme patience and skill are required to achieve a uniform look.

Just consider that, whereas it takes six hours to machine, polish, hand-finish, assemble and control a stainless steel Royal Oak bracelet, it takes thirty hours to accomplish these exact same procedures for the black ceramic bracelet.

Protected by the 41 mm case, the meticulously refined selfwinding calibre 5134 is fully visible through the glareproofed sapphire crystal caseback.

Beating at the unusual frequency of 2.75 Hz (19,800 vibrations per hour), the movement guarantees a minimal power reserve of 40 hours.

The retail price of Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Black Ceramic (ref. 26579CE.OO.1225CE.01) is Swiss Francs 85,000 plus tax. audemarspiguet.com
