Patek Philippe - Calatrava Ref. 5227

An interesting novelty from Patek Philippe at BaselWorld 2013 is the Calatrava Reference 5227, a new declination of the classic round wristwatch.

The movement is the well-known and appreciated self-winding 324 SC beating at 28,800 vph but the case is brand new.

The 39 mm case  is characterized by the concave bezel and the gently curved flutes sculpted from the case flank into the lugs. The ivory lacquered dial with dauphine hands, central seconds, date aperture and gold-applied hour markers has the traditional layout.

The new Calatrava Ref. 5227 features a sapphire crystal display back protected with a separate dust cover.

The hinge is on the inside of the cover, making it almost invisible even to the connoisseur. The small lip that allows the dust cover to be opened can hardly be discerned.

Available in rose, yellow or white gold, this precious timepiece is completed by a shiny alligator strap with square scales and a matching gold prong buckle. Below, the yellow and the white gold models.

81 years after the debut of the Calatrava, Patek Philippe reasserts the timeless quality of this legendary watch collection as well as the creativity of the manufacture in leveraging its traditions and heritage.
