Angelus continues its exploration of purpose-built chronographs with the new Instrument de Mesures, a model that combines three of the most useful historical chronograph scales in a single timepiece.

Bringing together a telemeter, pulsometer and tachymeter, the watch reflects the manufacture's longstanding focus on functional complications while drawing inspiration from the multi-scale chronographs that helped establish its reputation.

The result is a versatile measuring instrument capable of calculating the distance to a sound-producing event, heart rate and average speed using a single central chronograph seconds hand.

Available with either an ivory white or an ebony black dial, the two versions are limited editions of 25 pieces each.

A distinct colour code differentiates the three measurement scales. The black edition combines blue, orange and cream markings, while the ivory version pairs blue, red and green accents. The finely grained dial surface is complemented by syringe-style hands inspired by Angelus chronographs from the 1960s.

To achieve the necessary legibility, Angelus developed a three-dimensional construction composed of four distinct levels. The telemeter occupies the raised outer ring, the pulsometer is positioned on a sloping intermediate section, while the tachymeter is displayed as a spiral scale closer to the centre.

The minute track completes the layout without compromising readability. To create this architecture, the manufacture employed a laser-cutting process that adds depth while maintaining crisp, precisely defined markings.

The three scales are intuitive to operate through the monopusher chronograph integrated into the crown. A first press starts the chronograph, a second stops it, and a third resets it to zero.

The telemeter measures the elapsed time between seeing an event and hearing its sound, allowing the wearer to estimate the distance to its source. 

The pulsometer calculates heart rate after counting 15 beats, while the tachymeter determines average speed over one kilometre across a range extending from 20 km/h to 500 km/h.

The stainless steel case measures 39 mm in diameter and 9.25 mm in thickness, combining compact proportions with a notably slim profile. 

Twisted lugs flow naturally from the caseband, while the polished bezel leaves maximum space for the generously proportioned dial beneath a box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides.

Water resistance is rated to 30 metres / 100 feet, and the watch is fitted with either a black or tobacco calf leather strap secured by a stainless steel pin buckle.

Turning the watch over reveals the manufacture Calibre A5000 through the sapphire crystal caseback. Operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), this hand-wound movement offers a power reserve of approximately 42 hours and incorporates 23 jewels.

Its architecture highlights the chronograph mechanism, whose palladium-treated components contrast with the 3N gold-finished mainplate and bridges decorated with Côtes de Genève, polished bevels and circular graining.

Faithful to traditional chronograph construction, the A5000 employs both a column wheel and a horizontal clutch, combining refined operation with a mechanism that remains fully visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. 

The contrast between the gilded movement and the palladium chronograph components further emphasises the mechanism responsible for the watch's measuring functions.
