Oris - Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II

Australia’s Royal Flying Doctor Service is one of the world’s most iconic aeromedical services and provides emergency and primary healthcare services to people living in rural areas of Australia. Oris first worked with the non-profit organisation in 2013, and this year the two come together again in a second limited edition watch, the Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II.

The new model features a pulsometer, used to take a patient’s pulse. Oris has upgraded the pulsometer on the new watch, scaling it over 20 heartbeats for even faster readings. The watch’s bi-directional rotating bezel makes it possible to start measurement at any time and can also be used as a timer or a second time zone.

Part of the Big Crown collection, the Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II is a pilot’s watch so it must offer excellent readability at first glance, hence the new watch’s oversized 45 mm stainless steel case, black dial and clear Super-LumiNova numerals and hands. Water resistance is 30 metres / 100 feet.

The pulsometer scale is in a contrasting deep orange, not only a colour the eye picks up quickly, but also a reference to the earth in Australia’s Outback where much of the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s work takes place.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service organisation’s logo appears on the dial ring at 12 o’clock and is also embossed on the case back.

The watch is powered by the 4 Hz (28,800 vph) automatic movement Oris Calibre 735, based on Sellita SW 220-1, with day and date at 3 o’clock.

The Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II (ref. 01 735 7728 4084) will be limited to 2,000 pieces and will retail for Swiss Francs 1,900 on a leather strap and Swiss Francs 2,100 on a stainless steel bracelet or crocodile leather strap. oris.ch
