MB&F - Legacy Machine N. 2 Titanium

Double regulator timepieces offer very high levels of precision by averaging the rate of two balances.

In most cases, these highly sophisticated watches feature two complete movements and use resonance to couple the two systems.

For its Legacy Machine N. 2 (LM2), MB&F opted for a different approach. In fact, the average rates of its dual regulators are transmitted by a differential to a single gear train.

Launched in 2013 in red gold, white gold and a limited edition of 18 pieces in platinum 950, the Legacy Machine N. 2 has been redesigned this year for a limited edition of 18 pieces in titanium characterised by an eye-catching vivid green dial.

The redesigned bezel of the new model makes the case one millimetre slimmer compared to the previous models while the rounded and less edgy arching balance wheel bridges give the watch a softer look.

The high-tech titanium alloy - Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V used in aerospace and medical applications - combines strength and lightness, ensuring great comfort for the wearer’s wrist.

The dial offers perfect symmetry. The white stretched lacquer sub dial at 12 o'clock, with its blued gold hour and minute hands, is visually balanced by the large, raised differential at 6 o'clock. And, from left to right, the two flying balances and their escapements are identical mirror images, right down to the position of the stud holders pinning their balance springs.

The large planetary differential has three roles: 1. Transferring power to each of the regulators; 2. Receiving the individual timing rates from each balance; and 3. Transmitting the average rate of the two regulators to the gear train, where it finally manifests itself as the displayed time.

Developed to MB&F's specifications by Jean-François Mojon, the movement of Legacy Machine No. 2 was hand-finished by independent watchmaker Kari Voutilainen according to the highest standards of fine watchmaking including Geneva waves, gold chatons, mirror-polished bevels and bridges designed with deliberate internal bevelled angles, which cannot be finished by machine.

Each of the 18 pieces of the Legacy Machine N. 2 Titanium produced by Mb&F will have a price of Swiss Francs 138,00 / Euro 129,000 / US$ 138,000 before local tax. mbandf.com
