Glashütte Original - Sixties Iconic Square Collection

Glashuette Original Sixties Iconic Square Collection. Glashütte Original Sixties Iconic Square Collection. Following the presentation of the Sixties Iconic Collection in 2015, Glashütte Original continues its tribute to iconic '60s design with a special collection of five square chronographs featuring special dials inspired by "Spezimatic" models produced in the 1960s and produced in by the Saxon manufactory’s own dial makers in Pforzheim, Germany. 25 sets of the Sixties Iconic Square Collection will be available in Glashütte Original Boutiques and selected retailers worldwide. The indicative price for each model is around Euro 8,100 / US$ 9,700.
Following the presentation of the Sixties Iconic Collection in 2015 (we wrote about it here), Glashütte Original continues its tribute to iconic 1960s design with a special collection of five square chronographs featuring special dials inspired by "Spezimatic" models produced in the 1960s.

The new five models are characterised by square cushion-shaped cases, domed dials, curved hands, unconventional Arabic numerals and, above all, stunning colours which give the models their names: Sixties Iconic Forest (shimmering green), Sixties Iconic Ocean (deep blue), Sixties Iconic Graphite (dark grey), Sixties Iconic Tangerine (special orange) and Sixties Iconic Fire (glowing red).

Produced by the Saxon manufactory’s own dial makers in Pforzheim (Germany), these special dials are the result of complex and time-consuming processes.

First the dials are given a galvanic base coat. Then, layers of coloured lacquer are added by hand in a series of subsequent steps to achieve the precise hues and shading. At that point, black lacquer is applied using a special spray gun, a technique which produces, depending on the angle at which the gun is held, an individual colour gradient, known as the dégradé effect, which renders each watch unique.

The unusual colour of the Tangerine dial results from an additional lacquer colour. In fact, the initial galvanic coating in gold is not only combined with a layer of black, but also red lacquer.

As the final step, the lacquered dials are fired in an oven to burn in the colours.

Four of the five models are enhanced by sunburst finish. The fifth model, the Sixties Iconic Graphite, differs for the elaborate imprint which is performed prior to galvanic nickel plating: with the help of a 60-tonne press, the intricate filigree pattern of a guilloche stamp is imprinted on the dial blank.

Measuring 41.35 mm x 41.35 mm and guaranteeing water resistance to 30 metres / 100 feet, the stainless steel case of the Sixties Iconic Square houses the automatic Calibre 39-34, a manufacture movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 40 hours. The movement features the typical Glashütte three-quarter plate with stripe finish, swan-neck fine adjustment, and a skeletonized rotor with stripe finish and double-G logo.

25 sets of the Sixties Iconic Square Collection will be available in Glashütte Original Boutiques and selected retailers worldwide. The indicative price for each model is Euro 8,100 / US$ 9,700. glashuette-original.com
