SIHH 2017: Cartier - Rotonde de Cartier Mysterious Hour Skeleton

With the Rotonde de Cartier Mysterious Hour Skeleton watch, two of Cartier’s iconic Fine Watchmaking signatures – skeleton work and a mysterious movement – come together in the same watch.

Asymmetrical and structured, the two-sided Calibre 9983 MC rely on an ingenious concept which Cartier introduced in 1912 with the first mystery clocks.

The sword-shaped hands are not directly linked to the movement, but are joined to two sapphire discs fitted with teeth around their circumference.

These discs, activated by the movement, turn the hands – one disc for the minute hand and the other for the hour hand.

Usually hidden beneath the dial, the gear train of the mysterious movement is visible through the Roman numerals.

Enhanced by a beaded crown decorated with a sapphire cabochon, the 42 mm x 11.9 mm case is crafted from palladium.

The price of the Rotonde de Cartier Mysterious Hour Skeleton is Euro 60,000.
