The history of the Urban Jürgensen manufacture

2014 was a very important year for the Urban Jürgensen watch manufacture.

At the end of October, the haute horlogerie brand was the winner of the award for Best Watch in the category ‘Men’s Watches’ at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genêve with its 1142C model featuring a patented chronometer escapement.

On November 14th, it was announced that, after 30 years of foreign ownership, a Danish Private Investment Group took over the company bringing it back in Danish hands, a remarkable event for a brand that, founded in Copenaghen in 1773, is the symbol of fine watchmaking in Denmark.

Among the world's greatest watchmakers of the 18th and 19th centuries, members of the Jürgensen family, in particular Urban and Jules, worked alongside horological geniuses such as Jacques-Frédéric Houriet, Abraham-Louis Breguet and John Arnold, greatly contributing to the development of watchmaking.
