Pre-SIHH 2015: Baume et Mercier - Clifton Automatic Big Date Power Reserve

From Baume et Mercier we have another novelty for the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie that will be held next month (Geneva, 19-23 January): the Clifton Automatic Big Date and Power Reserve.

The 43 mm diameter polished and satin-finished stainless steel case is pretty imposing. Drawing inspiration from a 1950s model, it frames a domed satin-finished and silver-coloured dial with gilt Arabic numerals and indexes. The big date is displayed in an aperture at 12 o'clock while at 6 o'clock we find a small blued hand indicating the power reserve.

The self-winding ETA-based calibre, visible through the transparent sapphire crystal case back, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 42 hours. The oscillating weight is engraved with the Greek letter Phi, symbol of the golden ratio or divine proportion and the brand's logo.

The Baume et Mercier Clifton Automatic Big Date and Power Reserve (ref. M0A10205) is water-resistant to 50 metres and is matched to a square-scale brown alligator strap secured by a triple folding buckle. Retail price, to be confirmed at SIHH 2015, will be around Euro 3,400 / US$ 4,000. baume-et-mercier.com
