The Portofino line of IWC has a new member with the Portofino Hand-Wound Big Date.
The new model is available in white gold with a slate-coloured dial (ref. IW516101) or in red gold with a silver plated dial (ref. IW516102), exclusively from IWC boutiques.
The new big date has great evidence in the dial with two large and highly legible digits at 12 o'clock. This is achieved through two synchronized discs: the first of these shows the tens from 0 to 3, while the second shows the single digits from 0 to 9.
The indicator of the 192 hours, or 8 days, power reserve is positioned between 8 and 9 o'clock.
The case has a thickness of 13 mm and a diameter of 45 mm, probably a bit too large for this type of watch.
The robust and reliable manual-winding IWC 59230 calibre, a further development of the 59000-calibre family with the integration of the big date mechanism, is visible through the back sapphire crystal.
IWC used top quality leather straps made by Italian luxury shoe manufacturer Santoni to complete these new watches.
