C3H5N3O9 (Nitro) - Experiment ZR012 Black

In 2008, the watchmakers MB&F and Urwerk joined forces for an horological experiment called C3H5N3O9, just like the the molecular formula for nitroglycerin.

The collaboration produced the Experiment ZR012, a visionary watch - inspired by a Wankel orbital engine - that was presented four years later.

While the Urwerk team was focused on developing the hand-wound movement, MB&F collaborated with Eric Giroud to design and produce the case.

In the ZR01, the time is indicated by two Wankel engine eccentric rotating Reuleaux polygons (triangular-shaped rotors). Hours are indicated by the lower rotor along the front of the dial. Minutes are indicated by the smaller upper rotor.

C3H5N3O9 has now presented the Experiment ZR012 Black, a limited edition of 12 pieces available exclusively from The Hour Glass, whose case is made from black PVD treated zirconium, which is derived from the mineral zircon.

Visually zirconium is similar to titanium and is highly resistant to corrosion.

Case dimensions are 55mm x 44mm (excluding lugs). The articulated rear lug and compound front lug wrap ergonomically around the wrist to ensure a high level of comfort.
The back-case of the ZR012 displays the power reserve indicator.
The movement has autonomy of 39 hours and is wound by a large screw down crown.
